Armed Forces Community – bringing professionals together to support Armed Forces Communities to access Higher Education

Tuesday 27 April 2021 2pm – 3.30 pm

The Military Community covers serving personnel (both regular and reserve) veterans, spouses and their children.

The consequences of living in or having lived in an Armed Forces family can sometimes present challenges for these people wishing to access further or higher education.  One of the main issues is the complexity around eligibility for funding and this can make it difficult for potential students to navigate and access consistent and accurate information.

This session will bring together professionals who work with and support potential and enrolled  learners representing Service Leavers, Veterans, and Armed Forces Families and will outline the information and various support mechanisms in place to help learners from these communities to access education.

This event will be supported by Moira Leslie, Education Manager, Royal Caledonian Education Trust (RCET), Peter Tormey, Senior Widening Participation Officer, Edinburgh Napier University, Claire Biggar, Capability & Engagement Team, HR, Edinburgh Napier University, Claire Gammie, Widening Access and College Recruitment Manager, Abertay University and Michael Scott from SAAS.
