About the New Practitioner Network
The SCAPP New Practitioner Network (NPN) is a national professional learning and development network designed to support practitioners who are new to Widening Access and Widening Participation in Scotland. The Network aims to build knowledge, confidence and professional networks, helping early‑career practitioners to thrive in entry‑level roles, supporting the development of sustainable, high‑quality practice across the sector.
Who is the NPN for?
The New Practitioner Network is open to:
- Staff within their first three years of joining the A&WP sector in Scotland
- Practitioners in entry‑level or early‑career roles, particularly those with limited previous experience
- Staff from Paid Organisational SCAPP Members, as well as third‑sector and voluntary organisations
- Practitioners working across pre‑entry, recruitment, outreach, on‑course support and related areas
Membership of the Network can last for up to three years, supporting practitioners through the earliest stages of their career development.
Format and Delivery
The Network runs across the calendar year and includes:
- A combination of core programme sessions and member‑led satellite sessions
- A blend of in‑person and online meetings, designed to maximise accessibility
- Training sessions balanced with discussion, reflection and peer learning
Attendance at live sessions is encouraged but not compulsory, and rolling registration means new members are welcome to join throughout the year.
